I HAD an unusual but pleasurable flying experience recently... making one of my somewhat infrequent visits to an airport on the UK Mainland I took what I thought was a step back in time.

I was handed my flight ‘tickets’, two old fashioned traditional cardboard Boarding Passes at the Check-in desk. Having been used to printing out an A4 page for online check-in by budget airlines for the last two or three years, the unexpected reunion with a time when airline travel was enjoyable and the old style Boarding Pass, brought a spring to my step on the way to the Gatwick departure gate, accompanied by a feeling of anticipation - a rare enough emotion at an airport these days. Even better, each of my two boarding passes had a seat number!
