LYNSEY LAMONT visited Jersey for the first time recently - on a travel agents ‘Fam’ trip... I’D NEVER been to Jersey before, so was excited when I got the opportunity to join a group of travel agents recently for a four day visit to the island arranged by a leading local specialist tour operator. I met the group early on a Wednesday morning at Belfast International Airport where we boarded the earliest Jet2 flight to Jersey. The flight time was only around 80 minutes, although due to heavy fog we were slightly delayed for a further hour – a good opportunity for some of us to have a quick nap! Once we arrived it was great to see that the weather was much better than back home! We had a short transfer by coach to The Mayfair Hotel in St Helier where first impressions were good with the staff very welcoming and friendly! Getting fed and watered was top priority before checking in so we all headed out for lunch. It was a pleasant walk to the town centre where we ate in Restaurant Atlantique – a winner for serving up fantastic seafood! Sitting outside the restaurant relaxing and taking in the sea air we couldn’t help but notice the healthy buzz about the town centre. Hunger satisfied we went back to check into our rooms. Thrilled to have a suite as opposed to having a standard room we had the chance to freshen up before we all met up again in the hotel lobby. We met Hotel Manager Steve Webb and Marketing Manager Barry Fitzsimmons and got a tour of the hotel which confirmed that not only where the suites of a high standard but the standard rooms were also warm and welcoming… quite spacious, very clean with modern fitted bathrooms. The hotel also boasted a games room, indoor swimming pool, gym, sun terrace and a bar on the ground floor with a large seating area. The Mayfair was quite busy throughout our four-day stay and although from our observation it tends to attract an older market it is well suited to any age range.
