'Mr and Mr Smith' gives UK travel agents booking headache

TELETICKET, the flexible flight only operator, has revealed how people going away for weekend breaks can sometimes get themselves into hot water and give their travel agent a nightmare of administration.

Couples who are used to booking into hotels as 'Mr & Mrs Smith' actually need to know how to spell each other's names correctly in order to book a flight.

Agents appreciate the full name might not be known by the booker but unfortunately they can't accept 'niece' or 'secretary'. When a man does not know the age of his 'wife' it also can indicate a more casual weekend liaison.

Neil Chapman, Managing Director at Teleticket, said: "People travel for all types of reasons and some of the genuinely married people don't have the all the facts to hand, so they leave the travel agent with the frustrating job of trying to find out.

"With the availability of flights and weekend trips away so much more popular, we have seen a significant rise in the saucy Saturday and Sunday break."

Teleticket has operated for 10 years to various destinations across Europe from the UK, including the Canaries, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt.

More recently the company also launched flights to Cape Verde.
