A NEW era in long haul travel from London commenced recently when airline bmi launched a four times weekly service from London Heathrow to Mumbai, India. The launch took place on May 14 and was followed by the launch of a three times weekly service from London Heathrow to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Bmi is the only airline which connects from NI, at the Belfast City Airport, to London Heathrow, and with the introduction of these new bmi destinations a whole range of the airline's competitive fares is now
available on long haul flights.
Services to Mumbai operate on Monday, Wednesday,Friday and Saturday with return services to London
Heathrow on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.Riyadh will be served on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday with return flights departing on the same days.
Bmi Chief Executive officer, Nigel Turner said: "We are of course delighted to be confirming the launch
date of the first ever bmi long haul services from London Heathrow, as well as the addition of another
key destination."This is a great opportunity for London travellers to experience, for the first time on long haul flights, the whole range of service benefits and competitive fares that bmi has built its reputation on."
The launch of six new long haul destinations in less than nine months mean that bmi will be adding an
additional long haul aircraft to its fleet. This will create more jobs within bmi as well as having a
beneficial impact on their suppliers of goods and services. The additional long haul aircraft, a leased Boeing 757 from Icelandair, will be based at Manchester and will operate to Washington, DC. This will enable one of bmi's Manchester Airbus A330 aircraft to be based at London Heathrow to commence the new routes to Mumbai and Riyadh.
