FLIGHT delays are creeping up again on major holiday routes, says Holiday Which? in its annual survey on
flight delays.
Once again My Travel Airways is one of the poorest performers, with a 50-minute average delay to Corfu,
while bmi baby and parent company bmi often appear in the 'most delayed' column.
As with last year, Britannia Airways, now Thomsonfly, and Thomas Cook Airlines both performed well, says the
consumer magazine. Britannia's policy of standby aircraft and its cash incentives to airports for each
plane's departing on time seems to be paying off, according to Which?
Holiday Which? has also claimed that the growth in low-cost airlines and internet travel companies has
made it easier than ever for holidaymakers to be their own travel agents.
However, the magazine found in its report comparing the pro and cons of package versus independent
holidays, the rash of recent low-cost airline failures is a cause for concern to DIY holidaymakers.
Holiday Which? warns that consumer protection has failed to keep up with the changes in the travel
industry - so when you book independently and separately, you are unlikely to be covered by
protection, or 'bonding' schemes, such as ATOL or ABTA.
However, despite the Government acknowledging that legislation has not kept up with the proliferation of
budget airlines and internet travel companies, there are no plans for immediate changes to the law.
