Bomb in Turkey should not deter Tourists

In the wake of the bus bomb which killed five people in Kusadasi, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have stopped short of issuing a blanket ban on travelling to Turkey and have issued advice for those who still intend to travel there. With an increased terrorist threat the FCO strongly advise of a high security risk and recommend both travel and medical insurance before travelling to Turkey.

However, in the wake of the terrorist attack The British ambassador to Turkey Sir Peter Westmacott has urged British Tourists not to be put off from travelling to Turkey. Sir Peter said: "We must not give in to terrorism. Our reaction to this should be one of defiance." In line with this stance ABTA has said operators have reported few cancellations and, according to the Daily Telegraph, Thomas Cook Holidays said only six of its 1,000 holidaymakers in Kusadasi wanted to leave. While no one has claimed full responsibility for the blast, the bombing came after the Kurdish Freedom Falcons (TAK) announced a summer bombing campaign. The TAK were responsible for the bomb that injured 21 people in the Turkish resort of Cesme on July 10th.

If you intend to travel to Turkey further advice can be found on The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website at http://www.fco.gov.uk
