BELFAST GETS A PISTE OF THE ACTION

LOW-cost airline Jet2.com has announced its fourteenth and first-ever ski service from its fast growing base at Belfast International airport.

A weekly Saturday flight will leave Belfast for Chambéry, in the heart of the French Alps, the gateway to some of Europe's greatest skiing.

The inaugural flight will leave on December 15, 2007, just in time for Christmas, and with fares starting from only £28.99 one way including taxes, there will be no excuse for residents of the city and beyond not to sample the delights of nearby Courcheval and Les Arcs.

More than 30 ski resorts, such as Méribel, are within an hour's drive of Chambéry, while a further 40, including Morzine and Val d'Isère are around just 90 minutes by car, incorporating some of the most popular ski and snowboarding areas, such as the Three Valleys and L'Espace Killy.

In addition, Chambéry Airport is compact and therefore extremely easy to transit through, which is a huge plus point for skiers with all their equipment in tow. It also ensures less time wasted in the airport and more time on the slopes.

Jet2.com boss Philip Meeson, said: "Our presence in Northern Ireland is growing at a very rapid pace. We already offer services to hotspots like Ibiza, Palma and Malaga, so I'm delighted to now give fun-seekers from the region the option to experience some winter sports in Chambéry.

"Our ski website has proved hugely popular with boarders and skiers alike and this latest destination means there's even more choice for winter sport enthusiasts."

For those looking for something a little less strenuous than an all-action skiing or snowboarding holiday, Chambéry has plenty to offer.

Situated in the heart of Savoy, Chambéry is a renowned as a town rich in art and history. One of the most remarkable old neighbourhoods in France, the town boasts prestigious buildings and visitor attractions including the Charles Theatre, the Andre M Cultural Centre, the Jean Jacques Rousseau Médiathèque and the Manège Congress Centre.
