Battle looms over Manchester Services

BELFAST City Airport looks certain to be the setting for a fare ware between two airlines operating to Manchester.
Flybe, the airline which flies to most destinations from Belfast City, has announced a new Belfast-Manchester service in opposition to the current one being operated by British Airways.,
The Manchester service is the only link from the Province still operated by the national flag carrier, and already there are fears that BA might
eventually pull off the route completely rather than lose some of its market share to flybe.
At present flybe is in a battle for passengers to Liverpool with easyJet, who operate from Belfast International.
However, flybe claims it has secured substantial market share and recently reported that its monthly passenger figures had reached a new high.
It said passenger figures for its services to and from Belfast City Airport in August were up by eight per cent from last year.
The total number of passengers was over the half-million mark for the second successive month, with the load factor being slightly up on the previous month of 75 per cent.
