In the first seven months of 2006 Air Berlin PLC carried almost one million more passengers than in the comparable period of
the previous year. In July 2006 the company counted 1,613,227 passengers on board, 15.36 per cent more than in
the same month of the previous year (1,398,380 passengers).
Utilisation of aircraft capacity rose by 1.79 per cent to 85.67 per cent. In the first seven months of the year the cumulative
number of passengers increased by 13 per cent to 8,540,223 (previous year: 7,557,880). Capacity utilisation in the same
period rose by 2.73 per cent to 79.13 per cent.
"By the end of the year we will have carried well above 15 million passengers," commented Joachim Hunold, the chief
executive officer of the second-largest German airline when speaking in Berlin on Sunday.
In July the airport experiencing the highest rates of growth for Air Berlin was Stansted with 94.68% growth. In Germany the
airports with the highest growth were Frankfurt (+44.83 %), Nuremberg (+26.01 %), Düsseldorf (+18.68 %), Berlin-
Schönefeld (+18.1 %), Stuttgart (+15.54 %) and Hanover (+14.71 %). In other countries the highest growth was Catania
(+89.47 %), Zurich (+55.39 %), Manchester (+38.59 %), Milan-Bergamo (+33.14 %) and Vienna (+27.37 %).
