EVERYBODY knows Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland but does everyone know he visited Armagh and thanks to that Armagh is today known as the Ecclesiastical Capital of Ireland.

To appreciate and celebrate the legacy of Saint Patrick in Armagh, Barbara Ferguson of Armagh Guided Tours is once again planning her very popular March 17 Guided Walk to the historical cathedral hills of Armagh.

With a sprig of shamrock in your breast and a spring in your step Barbara will lead the Saint Patrick's day walk from Armagh City Hotel.

Firstly to Saint Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral where you will have a chance to appreciate the Armagh legacy of Saint Patrick (documented evident) within these ancient walls.

The walk around Saint Patrick's beloved City continues as a flight of steps guides you uphill again to the overwhelming twin spires of Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Cathedral.

Inside this majestic building the colourful evidence of Saint Patrick's journey through Ireland is revealed. And on the steps of this hilltop the tour will take time to reflect on his early Christian life in Armagh with its important monastic site - influential throughout the world.

The tour finishes back at Armagh City Hotel where celebrations continue with a hot toddy toast to "Saint Patrick's Visit to Armagh".

Barbara has been taking this tour for a number of years now and its popularity has grown so big that she has been asked to extend the weekend and show the people of Armagh their Saint Patrick links with Downpatrick.

A coach will be leaving Armagh City Hotel on Saturday March 18 at 10am for the scenic journey over to Saint Patrick's Centre, Downpatrick. Lunch and a tour of the Centre will take place before travelling to the nearby historical Saul Church and Struell Wells.

The tour finishes with a guided tour of Down Cathedral and a visit to Saint Patrick's grave. The coach returns to Armagh City Hotel at 5pm.
