The Marble-ous Marble Arches

TO the west of Lough Erne lies the famous Marble Arch Caves, an intriguing spot that offers a great insight into the formation of stalagtites and stalagmites.

Although this part of the county is packed with caves, the most popular and publicly accessible is Marble Arch.

If weather conditions are suitable, you can take a little trip underground in an electric boat.

The grand tour takes around one and a quarter hours, starting with the boat ride followed by a short walk which will take you to the Grand Gallery where the most impressive formations are located.

Guides here are informative, they'll talk of the history of the caves since being opened to the public and let you in on some unknow tales such as how vandals broke in during the 80s and shattered a massive stalagtite.

They might also let you in on their own personal explorations of parts of the cave not yet open to the public.

On site here, you'll find a gift shop, selling Irish cards, personalised items, and keyrings as well as geology books.
