FERMANAGH enjoys picturesque, unspoilt scenery which is the perfect setting for any stately home, so it isn't surprising that it's home to three prestigious National Trust properties.
First up is Castle Coole. And if you're looking for stately grandeur then this is the place to go.
Set within a stunning, manicured landscape park on the edge of Enniskillen, this majestic 18th century home, designed by James Wyatt was created to impress and it does its job well!
A tour of this house is highly recommended where you can absorb the opulent interior with its affluent decor, rich furnishings and ornate State bedroom which was once prepared for George IV in 1821!
Throughout the summer this site is opened from 10am til 8pm daily and tours will set you back just £4.50 or £2 for kids, but now we are approaching the summer, you can expect a lot to be happening here.
Castle Coole will be the backdrop to the classy Night at the Opera held this month. Visitors can expect some classic melodies amid stunning surroundings.
On May 12, this site will host Off the Beaten Track, a behind the scenes walk with the Head Warden around the estate grounds while August 6 will see the crowds gather for an annual Jazz Picnic so bring a rug!
Fermanagh is also gifted with the romantic Crom Demesne - a 2,000 acre site encompassing ancient woodland, tranquil islands, estate cottages and Old Crom Castle all of which is linked by the awe-inspiring landscape designed by WS Gilpin in the 19th century.
This is one of Ireland's most important nature conservation areas where rare lichens, all eight species of native bats, groups of wild deer, the shy Pine Marten and rare butterflies as well as the Purple Hairstreak combine to make this a truly unique wee spot.
Crom is opened throughout the summer from 10am til 7pm with cruises available for those keen to explore surrounding land.
You also find a pretty tearoom and gift shop here as well as a campsite and children's play area. There are numerous refreshing woodland walks and views along the Kingfisher Cycle Trail too!
On May 14, Crom will host an American Garden Walk on which participants can witness what the Trust describes as a 'riot of colour' in the American Garden or the Culliaghs. On June 4 there's A Walk in History at this site when visitors can learn about the intriguing history of the people and the buildings at Crom Demesne.
And for the kids there's a Teddy Bears' Picnic on June 7 here.
There's loads happening throughout the summer too, such as a Wetland and Wildflower Meadow Walk on July 2, a Traditional Crafts Workshop on July 30 as well as a Deer Park Safari on August 6.
The other National Trust gem in Fermanagh is Florence Court - a truly welcoming home. The mansion here is surrounded by a large area of parkland, garden and woodland with handsome views to Benaughlin with Cuilcagh Mountains standing proud as a majestic backdrop.
There are many serene corners to discover at this site as well as the 18th century house with its warm and gentle atmosphere.
The house tours here take visitors on a magical history tour where decor is rich in Rococo style.
Throughout the summer months, expect things to liven up at Florence Court with special events such as the BT Country Fair on May 28, Living History Sunday from July 2-30 and August 6-27 along with a Family Fun Day on August 13.
This site opens throughout May, June and July from 1pm-6pm and during August from 12pm-6pm.
