Come Talk To Us, Says Airport

George Best Belfast City Airport is inviting local residents to the airport to talk as it hosts two Community Information Days today and tomorrow.

The event is an opportunity for local residents, community groups, charities, schools and sports groups to find out how to apply for support from the airport's Community Fund, a voluntary initiative which has already seen over £36,000 donated to 11 local projects.

Staff will also be on hand to answer questions about airport operations or any issues surrounding the proposed runway extension, noise or the environment.

The Airport's Ruth Kimbley, pictured above right, from the Community Fund said: "We're looking forward to meeting people who share our vision of improving the health and well-being of local communities.

"So many people have already benefitted from the Community Fund and it's important groups come to talk to us to find out what we can do for them.

"We also welcome those who want to talk about issues including the proposed runway, the environment or anything to do with our operations."

The Community Days will be held from 4pm to 9pm today and from 8am to midday tomorrow in the conference suite at the airport.

Visitors can enter a prize draw to win a pair of free flights and the first 50 people to come to the event will win copies of Silver Wings, a book commemorating 25 years of the airport.

Those attending can book behind-the-scenes tours and visitors can view the airport's new noise and track monitoring system - which accurately records the height of approaching and departing aircraft.
