View From the Edge - Mind-blowing, says Sandra

The transformational new cruise ship, Celebrity Edge, is in a class of its own!

And that's from someone who knows a thing or two about cruise ships having sampled the VIP fare of many of the world's leading cruise super-ships over the past few years.

Sandra Corkin, proprietor of Oasis Travel, was the only Northern Ireland travel agent to attend a preview of some of the many ground-breaking features of the new vessel recently, and her verdict was "absolutely out of this world."

"I was completely blown away, by the innovation, the cutting edge technology and the planning which has gone into the Edge," said Sandra. "We have already taken our first booking and I know that many of our Celebrity cruises clients are waiting impatiently for the launch of the Edge in November 2018, and perhaps in the future seeing it operating in the Mediterranean." The Edge's first itineraries are operating out of Florida to the Caribbean.

Sandra was able to get a first look at the transformational Edge, with its dramatically expanded staterooms, ship-climbing Magic Carpet platform and stunning suites which have set a new standard for ship design. Designed completely in 3-D, and featuring the work of A-list global architects and designers, the 2,918-guest Celebrity Edge aims to make discerning global travellers redefine how they experience the world and how intimate a cruise holiday can be.

“Our guests don't want to just skim the world like a magazine – they want to feel a human connection with it," said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. "Every element of Celebrity Edge is meant to make that connection intense and unforgettable. Our new class of ship will allow guests to experience their journeys with the uniqueness and sophistication that marks the rest of their lives.”

Added Sandra: "More of the new features of the ship will be revealed over the coming months in the runup to it going into service in a year and a half's time, but what we saw was absolutely mind blowing - indeed I've run out of superlatives to describe it. From the innovative Magic Carpet platform which is used to service tenders and then which is converted into a restaurant, to the design of the accommodation which brings balconies into your living space, to aps on your phone which literally do everything for you, it is simply amazing."

Celebrity Cruises has made the most of its first new ship class in 10 years, bringing in a design and architectural dream-team from around the globe to push the boundaries of ship design and to evolve luxury travel at sea.

Revolutionary staterooms erase the boundaries between the traditional ship stateroom and its veranda, creating a closer connection to the ocean. The new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda turns guest quarters into a seamless space, from the room's door all the way to the water’s edge. The simple touch of a button gives guests open-air access to the sea, bringing the outside in and the inside out. With the touch of another button, guests can take complete control of their stateroom and personalise everything from lighting, shades, temperature and service – even choosing a setting to tuck them in or gently wake them.

Meanwhile, Oasis Travel’s Bangor and Lisburn Road branches have been named as two of the UK’s best travel agencies in this year’s prestigious Travel Trade Gazette Best Travel Agents list. The Bangor office of the local independent travel agency clinched top place in the Best Travel Agency in Northern Ireland category, while its Lisburn Road branch snapped up the accolade as second runner-up in the same category.

The list was announced in a glittering ceremony in Birmingham earlier this week after an exhaustive judging process led by influential industry publication the Travel Trade Gazette (TTG), which saw agents rated by tour operators and other suppliers, and assessed by travel trade journalists.

Lynn Jamison, Manager of Oasis Travel Bangor, said; “It feels amazing to receive this recognition from our industry peers. “We’re delighted to have clinched the Best Travel Agency in Northern Ireland title after only one year of relocating and refurbishing our Bangor office. It is now the most contemporary of our branch network and lends a vibrant new home for our dynamic team, offering a relaxing atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. I can only assume that it is down to that ambience combined with our team’s travel expertise and a genuine commitment to personal service that helped us stand out. The office was even designed with a trophy cabinet for just such an award!

“It is, of course, fantastic to also see our colleagues in our Lisburn Road office recognised by being placed second runners up. Well done Team Oasis.”
